iPhone Dive Planner

MacWorld’s Rob Griffiths, a certified scuba diver, recently reviewed a new scuba software product for your iPhone.  It is a simple and easy to use dive planner developed by PunkStar Studios.  It basically works with 3 slide bars, Pressure, Depth and Dive Time.  Sound familiar?  Slide the Pressure bar to your nitrogen level at start of dive, the next bar to the depth and finally …

Waterproof Your Smartphone

Have you ever heard of Golden Shellback?  Is it not a bird, a plane or a turtle.  It’s a new coating.  This unique coating was applied to an iPhone and a Blackberry.  Each was dropped in a glass of water and guess what?  Both worked after the test.  I not sure I would take my iPhone diving yet, but as divers and snorkelers we are always getting things wet.  This may a good …

Snorkeling With Whale Shark and Pentax W60

Recently, Dave from TechLife sent me this link to Gizmodo, about the Pentax W60 waterproof camera.  The video on the link shows snorkelers swimming with a whale shark off the coast of Maui.  While the video sucks (due to the photographer), it does show how well the Pentax W60 works underwater (rated only down to 13 feet).  While the camera is not recommended for divers, it …

Log-In Underwater

Here is the answer for those tech savy divers who want instant information entered into their dive logs.  Engadget recently report on an underwater keyboard water-resistant to 60 feet.    The keyboard works on wireless Bluetooth technology and only cost a mere $700.  Maybe my tech guy at Techlife might enjoy this product.

I can’t wait to see the next workstation.

New Sealife Underwater Camera

My first underwater camera was a Sealife Reefmaster.  I used my first Reefmaster for over 6 years and never had a leak or a floodout.  Recenlty Engadet and Digital Trends reported on Sealife’s newest underwater camera the DC800.  The DC800 works in or out of it’s underwater case.  Inside the SLR like case, divers can take the camera down to 200 feet.  The camera offers and 8 megapixel resolution and …

Underwater GPS System

One of the most common problems that divers experience, is getting lost during the dive.  Decending down to 60 feet swimming around for about 30 mnutes then coming up to find the dive boat way off in the distance.  Even with my compass, I have had this happpen to me more than once.

Long Beach Dive now has an …

New Poseidon Rebreather

PopSci.com recently reported about a new underwater rebreather.  If you plunge into the sea to ogle exotic wildlife, why not stay a while—and get an even closer view? Cave-diving engineer Bill Stone makes that possible with the most user-friendly version yet of a rebreather, a device that recycles your exhaled air, removes carbon dioxide, and adds oxygen. (A scuba device quickly burns through tanks of fresh air.)

On a typical …

Scuba Waterproof MP3 Player

You can listen to tunes or talk on the phone when driving your car.  Now you can listen to your favorite tunes while scuba diving down 100+ feet or snorkeling while visiting your favorite coral reef.

How often do we send 10-20 minutes on safety-stop, bored 10 feet below our boat?  Turn on the new Frontgate MP3 play and listen to a few tunes from your favorite band would help the time pass more quickly. With …
