Haigh Quarry- The Caribbean of the Midwest
The May/June issue of Alert Diver (DAN’s magazine) contained an article by Erin Zeigler Making the Quarry Scene. In the Chicago area, Haigh Quarry is a great place for to go for dive training or just fun diving. The quary has plenty of marine life to look at with Blue Gills, Bass, some very large Catfish and even Paddlefish and Muskie. Visibility can be 40-50 feet in the morning.
In addition, there are many other wrecks to see, most in about 20-50 feet. There are 8 underwater platforms (at 20 ft.) for dive training, and even an above the water platform where divers can practice dive boat entries and exists. Haigh Quarry has 4 dressing room, a raise station and a full rental dive shop. So visit the Haigh Quarry, the Carribbean of the Midwest at beautiful Kankakee, Illinois and check out the pink flamigos.
