What’s Happening to Our Marine Life?
What happening to our marine life in the oceans? Fellow Shedd diver Bob Bienick captured this picture of a Hammerhead Shark on a recent dive trip to Socorro Islands 260 miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas.

This beautiful big animal was caught and left to die in a fishing net. The divers found these and other dead animals such as large mantas tangled in nets. I hope this picture will help us realize that shark depletion is a reality which is affecting the ecosystems of our oceans in many ways, and ways we will not see an effect for many years. The World Consevation Union (IUCN) list about 590 species in the shark family and on their Red List, many of the known species are in decline. We need to do more to preserve our oceans and the marine life in it.
