Navy Can Help Provide New Potential Reefs
Check out the Navy’s Mothball Fleet. There are new ships being are added every few weeks. Now recreational scuba diver, Dr. Harry Wongs wants to turn them into new coral reefs. Dr. Wong is the President of the group Ships 2 Reefs. Their goal is to sink 20 ships in 20 years. Florida’s Key Largo has been very successful sinking both the Coast Guard Cutters Duane and Bibb in 1987, and more currently the Spiegel Grove in 2005. These ships have provided new coral reefs and attracted many fish like the Goliath Grouper and Barracuda, which in turn has attracted divers and snorkelers.
