Great Lakes Conservation and Diving

Welcome to the Great Lakes!
Stretching from the rustic shores of Lake Superior, through the hard-working waters of Lake Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario (do you remember the acronym HOMES), and on to the mouth of the St. Lawrence river, the Great Lakes are one of the natural wonders of the world. The Lakes and their connecting channels contain roughly 18% of the world’s surface freshwater, second only to the polar ice caps.
The Great Lakes provide boating, fishing swiming and scuba diving. The Chicago area has diving on wreckage from steamers, schooners, tugboats, barges and even World War II fighter planes. Many of these are still intact, thanks to the kindness of the fresh water.
These are just some of the reasons The Great Lakes Forever organization is working hard to preserve this ecology for divers and everyone.
