Getting Into The Red District
Ever wonder why your photographs at 80 feet appear mostly blue, or what you see at 80 feet lacks much color? That’s because you loose the color spectrum the deeper you go. Red, orange, yellow and green are almost gone by 60 feet. Using a good light or external flash can help bring back the color. I recently bought a new red tinted dive mask to compensate for the problem. This has really made a difference. I was diving in Dominica soon after getting the mask, and the wall at 85 feet was brilliant with color. Is this for everyone, absolutely not. But I really enjoy not having to carry an additional light with my camera and all the other stuff attached to my BC. If your dive shop has tinted mask ask if you can try it out and get into the light.
